The readings for the eleventh Sunday in Ordinary time all deal with the importance of being accountable before God. God knows of our transgressions before, during and after we commit them but we still need to actually ask for forgiveness to receive it.

I wish more priests would teach/preach the value of one on one auricular confession to a priest who is acting "in persona Christi". Many Catholics nowadays feel that participating in a communal penance service suffices as reception of the sacrament of reconcilation and fulfills their obligation.
