The Great Commandments

I wasn't sure of a good, practical example of the law of love so I preached about how we love God through love of neighbor. But it was pretty weak so I'm not going to post it this week. There was too much excitement with the Iowa State/Texas A&M game. However, I did find out something very important. I wondered who I would cheer for when my two favorite teams play one another. I found out that I'm more of a cyclone fan than and Aggie. I've been so from childhood.

I've been casually following this for the past week or so. There is still hope for the Church!!

Pay special attention to...

“It’s important to emphasize that any proposition for women lectors would simply arise from their baptism and not from any presumptive opening for orders,” said one Vatican source....

The best way that this will get shut down is if people start saying that this begins opening the door for women's ordination.

I don't know that anybody is saying that. But it would clear up some confusion: If a lector is a lay role (as is stated in the rite of institution), there is no good reason for restricting it to men only - that in itself could be inferred to mean that men have a different "class" of baptism than women, which is totally false (and just another reason for others to call the church patriarchal and out-of-touch.) A lay person is a lay person is a lay person. It might also pave the way for doing the same with the ministry of acolyte, which could potentially "legitimize" a lot of people who distribute Holy Communion or handle the sacred vessels. It is so tiring to read rant after rant on the web about having "too many EMHCs," as though they were in the wrong for doing something that the church needs and asks them to do.
